SOLV Energy’s Bright Future Internship program provides a valuable pathway for students to explore careers in renewable energy. Each summer, SOLV Energy welcomes a new cohort of students from four-year colleges and universities, community colleges and trade schools, including those local to SOLV Energy's national project sites. Our multifaceted recruitment strategy ensures the internship program engages motivated individuals with diverse backgrounds, bringing quality education, fresh thinking and innovative ideas to our company.
Intern Spotlight: Dylan Cox, Business Development
In 2024, six interns worked with teams across the organization. Dylan Cox, an alumnus of Oregon State University, joined the program as an intern on our Business Development team. Dylan graduated from OSU with a degree in Energy Systems Engineering.
In his role, Dylan learned how to apply his engineering education to a new facet of energy: “At first, I didn’t know how to talk to clients. Now, thanks to the great feedback I received from my managers, I feel more comfortable and confident talking with anyone about what sets SOLV Energy apart in our industry.”
Whether it was with other interns or within the business development team, Dylan said he immediately felt accepted as part of the SOLV Energy family. Coming to work each day with a goal to grow within his role, Dylan built great relationships not only within the organization but also with some of our clients. He credits his Bright Future mentor, Alison Hyde Adams, for his growth. As this was Alison’s first time mentoring an intern, she too was learning a new role alongside Dylan. She emphasized that she would want to mentor again in the future, knowing that she would’ve wanted the same for her younger self.
Dylan’s advice for future interns is to never be afraid to ask questions. “Establish strong relationships and trust that your teammates have your back, because at the end of the day, our success comes from what we do as a team.”
Enhancing Perspectives Through Mentoring
In addition to role-specific experience, the Bright Future program also provides opportunities for interns to learn about the organization through workshops and presentations from other SOLV Energy departments.
At the end of the program, students present their key takeaways and accomplishments to their mentors and other SOLV Energy employees who may be considering adding an intern to their team next year. “Most people focus on how much an intern learns from their internship, but what's also really cool to hear is how rewarding it was for SOLV employees to have an intern on their team! Providing mentorship and coaching to the next generation can really enhance your own perspective,” Rachel Syko, M.A, Talent Development Specialist and co-facilitator of the program, added.
Since the program ended, Dylan Cox has been offered a full-time position within the Business Operations team and will continue his role from the Bend, Oregon office. Dylan joins two other 2024 interns who accepted job offers with SOLV Energy because of their strong performance throughout the program.
